Kukke Subramanya Sarpa Samskara Pooja

Kukke Subramanya is located at the feet of Western Ghats in the Sullia Taluk of Dakshina Kannada district in the Karnataka State. The main attraction of the town is a Kukke Subramanya Temple, which is one of the famous temples in South India. With lots of devotees performing rituals and traditions to seek blessings, it is indeed a pristine pilgrimage location in India. ‘Lord Subrahmanya is the main deity worshipped as the lord of all serpents.

Kukke Subrahmanya is regarded as the abode of nagas and the pooja is offered to Lord Subrahmanya along with serpent King Vasuki. Thousands of devotees from various parts of India and abroad come here to offer Sarpa Samskara Pooja along with Ashlesha Bali, Nagaprathishta, and other rituals.

Sarpa Samskara Pooja / Sarpa Dosha:

Sarpa Samskara or Sarpa Dosha is one of the poojas performed at the temple by devotees to get rid of the Sarpa (serpent) Dosha (curse) either knowingly or unknowingly.

For the devotees, the registration fee inclusive of Nagaprathishta will be Rs 3,000/- (Three Thousand Rupees only) either by cash or by paying DD in the bank. Only those devotees who have undergone Upanayana Samskara and performed Pithukarna can undertake rituals by themselves. For others, the temple office will make necessary arrangements and Kriya Karthi on their behalf on prior request or booking.

The pooja is performed for two days and on all days except Dhashami, fasting days like Ekhadashis, Asthamies grahana (eclipse), Shivarathri and fifteen days during the annual festival. Hence, Sarpa Samskara devotees are required to stay for two days. The pooja is performed during day-time with no particular poojas in the evening.

  • On the day of commencing the pooja, the devotees require to take a bath at holy Kumaradhara River and should be present at Adisubrahmanya Temple before 8:30 AM.
  • The devotees should follow the instructions by Purohitha regarding the rituals performed at the pooja.
  • Partake forenoon Prasada at 1:00 PM, evening tiffin at 6:00 PM at Shanmukha. Night meals are forbidden for Seva devotees.
  • Food arrangements will be made for the Seva devotees by the temple devasthanam, for up to four persons per seva.
  • Next day, the devotees need to take a bath and report at the same venue at around 5:30 AM and have tiffin at 7:30 AM at the dining hall.
  • Devotees had to report at Nagaprathishta Mantapa in the outer quadrangle of the Kukke Sri Subrahmanya Temple after Pradakshina.
  • After performing midday Mahapooja, the Archaka concerned will conduct Nagaprathishta Partake Prasada.
  • Seva fee of Rs. 3,000 is inclusive of Dana Dakshina to Purohitha, Kriya Karthu, Brahmacharis and Godana.
  • Temple entry is forbidden on the first day of the Seva.

By Bus – There is regular government (KSRTC) and private buses plying for Kukke Subramanya from Bangalore and Mangalore at regular intervals.

By Train - The nearest railway station is Subramanya Road Railway Station on Mangalore-Bangalore route, which is situated at a distance of around 12 km from Kukke Subramanya.

By Flight - The closest Airport to Kukke Subramanya is Mangalore International Airport at a distance of 115 km

By Cab/Car – You can hire a cab or travel in your own transport to Kukke Subramanya.
